6 Months

At 6 months, this....
Happy

Curious

Bundle Of Energy
is.....

Weight: 14 lbs 3 oz (14%)
Length: 25.5 inches (38%)
Head Circumference: 41 cm (11%)

Some of the things she is up to as a 6-month-old are:
  • Sucks her toes. Both feet at the same time if she can manage.
  • Cut her first tooth (I guess my teething suspicions were correct).
  • Sleeps great at night (usually 8-7 getting up once around 4 to eat) but fights naps like crazy.
  • Is quite loud. Luckily, it is a happy loud with a lot of squealing/yelling. Pretty cute most of the time. Makes church hard because she loudly expresses her excitement at all the new things she has to look at.
  • Loves to practice standing and sitting. Pretty close to sitting unsupported.
  • Is terrified of the blow dryer/blender/vacuum which makes looking cute/cooking/cleaning a challenge.
  • Rolls front to back and back to side both directions but hasn't quite figured out how to completely go back to front yet.
  • No stranger anxiety yet... she loves when people pay attention to her.
I am loving the stage she is at now. Super fun and interactive but can't go anywhere yet. I'm definitely trying to enjoy every day because she is growing up so fast.

Redwoods

We went hiking up in the hills on Saturday and saw some gigantic and cool redwood trees.

Steven and I love to hike and were glad that Aubrey enjoyed the experience. I didn't love the warning sign about ticks, poison oak, and rattlesnakes, so we definitely stuck to the trail. But, the trail was great because all the trees provided plenty of shade.
And.... it was a good thing it was a warm day because I changed Aubrey in my lap in the car right before and spent the first half of the hike covered in pee until I dried off. Steven and Aubrey both thought that was pretty funny.

First Meal

Today Aubrey had her first taste of food that wasn't mom's milk. I was worried that she would hate it because feeding her and getting her to eat enough has sometimes been a struggle... but she loved it!

Here is the picture progression of how her "first meal" went:

"Am I supposed to eat the bowl?"

"Ok.. I'll try the rice cereal but I'm not too sure about this..."

"More Please..."

"I can't get enough!"

"I'm full and satisfied."

She also is loving her new high chair. Probably because it is "high" and being big and tall has always been one of her favorite things.

Silver

We seem to be fitting right in here in Silicon Valley. Well, at least our little silver Honda Civic is fitting right in. Here is what our parking garage looked like at 7 am this morning:

I'm also enjoying fitting in with the gorgeous weather. Weekly pool play dates, amazing morning bike rides, and lots of time on walks are making me a happy California girl.

Quarter Birthday

Steven turned 25 yesterday! He said that it was his "quarter" birthday. I say that when I turn 25 in a few weeks it better be my "third" birthday because I do not want to live to be 100...

Other than Aubrey and I chilling at home a while yesterday when Steven worked (see previous post), here is how we celebrated the day-

After present opening and a family walk, Aubrey and I spent the morning making Steven a birthday cake to take into his work:
Definitely nothing special or fancy, but I just completely ran out of time. I seem to always forget how everything takes 2X as long with Aubrey around.

We met Steven and his work team for lunch at a Brazilian restaurant. It was fun to meet the people he works with and sees so much more than me. And... thanks E&Y for picking up the tab :)
And, for dinner, we went out as a family. So from writing this it sounds like his whole birthday was about food. Food and friends and family. Pretty good if you ask me.

Steven is definitely something special and I am so grateful he is mine. He works so hard, and still manages to be creative, fun, and an amazing father and husband. I'm glad that I get spend my life with him. Happy Birthday!

Today

So, today is Steven's birthday. Happy Birthday! I will blog about his birthday tomorrow hopefully once all the festivities are complete. But Aubrey is being quite the character today and so I just couldn't help but share some pictures since I want to remember all the funny things she does.

Plus, my mom told me that she keeps checking our blog and that I have been failing in the update department lately. So, here mom, just for you.

This morning, we had to be out of the house and I had quite a few things that I needed to do before then. Of course, that means that Aubrey decided that she was going to full on hysterically cry for an hour. She never does that.

Anyways, even after I got her to sleep she kept waking up and crying anytime I tried to leave. So, I slowly inched away and left my shirt with her so I could quickly get dressed. Her peacefully sleeping made me instantly forget the cry-fest she had just been through.
She likes tummy time and has been rolling over for a while. But, she has recently decided that rolling over is so much fun, and it is getting hard to keep her on her belly. Except.... when she tries to roll and forgets that she has an arm. That doesn't look too comfortable!
And, she is getting better at sitting up by herself. I definitely wouldn't say that she is sitting, but she can stay usually long enough for me to snap a picture before toppling over.
Oh, she is a joy.

Nursery Rhymes

Every morning from 7-8 is daddy-daughter time. That is when I get some "me" time to exercise.

Steven gets up at 5:30 each day so that he can study and spend time with Aubrey before work since she is usually sleeping when he gets home at night.

This morning as I was filling up my water bottle for my bike ride, I heard Steven teaching Aubrey some nursery rhymes. It was pretty cute:

And, typical of Steven, she wasn't learning just any nursery rhymes. She got her own special version.

For example in "Rock-a-Bye, Baby" after

"When the bough breaks,
The cradle will fall,"

Aubrey will be learning a much softer version ending in,

"But she was wearing a parachute,
So it didn't hurt at all."

Life with Steven is never dull.
